hockeySpring is just over the horizon, but that doesn’t mean the cold weeks are going away.

So, what better way to celebrate the colder months of the year than to spend an evening or two watching the Cottonmouths cutting up the ice on their home ground?

If you’re a resident of Columbus, GA then you know our hockey team. If you have recently used movers to set your family up in Columbus GA, then we’d like to take a few moments to introduce you them. They’re named after the infamous cottonmouth, a venomous snake native to the southeastern parts of the United States, and it fits their playing style perfectly.

The Cottonmouths were founded in 1996, and spent several years playing in the Central Hockey League before playing in the East Coast Hockey League from 2001 to 2004.

The politics of sports forced the Cottonmouths to find a new league, and for the last 12 years, they have been playing in the Southern Professional Hockey League under the guidance of hockey coaching whiz Jerome Bechard. Their biggest achievement in the Southern Hockey League was winning the President’s Trophy in 2012, showing their prowess as playoff champions.

The Cottonmouths play their home games at the Columbus Civic Center, which coincidentally, was also built in 1996 – it was almost like it they were meant to be together.

Hockey fans might be interested to know that the CCC is also home to the Auburn Tigers ice hockey team, so ice hockey fans are spoiled for choice here.

The Civic Center is a hub of entertainment in Columbus and the surrounding areas, featuring everything from ice hockey to Disney on Ice shows. It even hosts professional wrestling. Oh, and the food here is fantastic, too, with a little bit of something for everyone in your family – you have to check out the ice cream bar.

Upcoming Cottonmouth Games:

February 5th: Cottonmouths vs. Huntsville Havoc

February 6th: Cottonmouths vs. Macon Mayhem

February 19th: Cottonmouths vs. Fayetteville Fireants

The Cottonmouths are proud of their community, so they regularly get involved in charitable activities. One this year is “Princess & Superhero Night” on February 12th, 2015. At this game, both teams will wear special jerseys.

Following the game, the special jerseys will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Children’s Miracle Network.

If you’re looking to enjoy a fantastic evening of ice hockey in a great venue with even better food, then we’d strongly suggest you book some tickets for one of the several Cottonmouth nights coming up in February and March – you won’t be disappointed. Buy your tickets HERE.
